The definition of a complex shape defined as parametric is generated by a diagram that uses geometric elements and parameters. The parameter is the variable that can determine the change in the result of the equation or of the system.
The essential tools for this design process are the editors hosted by software such as Grasshopper within Rhinoceros.
The flexibility that this type of algorithmic design offers, an alternative to the classic three-dimensional modeling of shapes, is that by manipulating the data you can always go back to the beginning of the process, making it reversible.
Today everything that surrounds us is in some way influenced by the presence of algorithms, because parametric design gives creative expressive freedom and is applicable to any scale of the drawing. The industrial product, architecture, urban planning, biomechanics and all types of engineering.
The main goal of the course is the control of surfaces and volume through the freeform rules.
Module 01 - Case study
Module 02 - The principle, the work tools
Module 03 - Introduction to the scheme concept
Module 02a - Surface, the rules
Module 02b - Surface, methods and variations
Module 02c - Modulation, paneling, tailormade
Module 03 - Volume, rules and freeform
The course is intended for beginners in parametric modeling and Grasshopper. No previous Grasshopper experience is required, but it is preferable to have an intermediate level in Rhinoceros.

ART (Authorized Rhino Trainer) and BIM-Coordinator (buildingSMART)
Nicola Violano (1989) is an architect and independent researcher based in Berlin.
Member of Stone Academy since 2013, he combines professional work in Italy with personal study on algorithmic design, concentrating on the link between stone as material and new design technologies.
Algorithms-Aided Design and CNC milling (Computer numerical control) are some of the methods he uses in his work. Recognized as technical experts, he is BIM-Coordinator, officially registered in the buildingSMART Professional Certification - Foundation Registry (German Chapter) and in the McNeel Authorized Rhino Trainers (ART) list.
He is author of several articles and the material produced in recent years, relating to the research areas explored, is collected in journals and in publications edited by other authors.
His works have been presented at the Biennale di Venezia, Marmomacc (International Natural Stones, Design & Technology Exhibition), EXPO Universal Exposition Milano and many others.
